Our air quality inspection focuses on how carbon monoxide may be getting into your home.
Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, toxic gas that has the molecular formula CO. The molecule consists of a carbon atom that is triply bonded to an oxygen atom.
Carbon Monoxide is produced by the incomplete combustion of the fossil fuels gas, oil, coal, and wood used in boilers, engines, oil burners, gas fires, water heaters, solid fuel appliances and open fires.
Dangerous amounts of CO can accumulate as a result of poor installation, poor maintenance, or failure or damage to an appliance. Additionally, fuel will not burned properly when there is insufficient makeup air.
In today's world of improved insulation, air sealing, and good quality double glazed windows, it has become increasingly important to have good ventilation, to maintain all appliances regularly, to have reliable CO detector installed, and to make sure your combustion equipment is properly ventilated.
As part of our Energy Audit we will inspect your heating and hot water area to make sure it is setup correctly. This includes looking for back draft problems, items that could cause your systems to back draft, identifying how CO may be leak into your home, and insuring that you have adequate makeup air. When we are done inspecting this area we will tell you what needs to be done to insure your family’s health and safety.
All CO toxicity problems need to be addressed before making any other upgrades to your home. Failure to address these problems could lead to health problems or death.
